The Race for Work Escape Automation Transform Your Career and Thrive in the Second Machine Age (Audible Audio Edition) Bhoopathi Rapolu Matt Doyle Books Reviews

I especially like Bhoopathi's comments about how Millenials redefine work. We are no longer satisfied with a high paying job. We want our jobs to be meaningful and provide us with the freedom to do what we love. There are some great perspectives on work as well as some new ideas about how to find your dream job when faced with rapidly changing technology. This book came to my attention when in the midst of a major career change and I'm glad it did!
This is a good book for anyone looking to level up their career and get more out of their working life. It is also an essential reality to recognize that technology is changing the way we work and many jobs in the future will become redundant, and as the author pants out, we need to evaluate our chosen career and working paths with this in mind. The book has a very useful road map to choosing important work and he reminds us that, while many jobs disappear, other industries are thriving and this creates other jobs. This means more opportunity despite other professions disappearing. This book is a great resource for mapping out the road to your success in whatever work you decide to pursue!
This is a must read for anyone in the working world today. Whether an employee in a big corporation or a solo entrepreneur, this will make you think about your business and the work you do. The author is an authority on the subject and he adds plenty of well researched documentation to support his position. I highly recommend this to anyone and know it will make you rethink how you look at your working life.
I purchased the kindle version onto my iPad app and finished reading the book in two sittings.

The book starts by giving a good visionary portrayal on how the disruptive technologies can reshape the job market in the next two decades. After that it tells what we need to do to keep ourselves relevant in the tide of this inevitable change. A key take away is that one machine can do the work of fifty ordinary men, but no machine can do the work of one extraordinary man.

The author spoke about his own personal struggle in the tide of the second machine age that is already in vogue and how he successfully emerged in the tough job market to land in his dream job. It kept my interest going as I was myself in the midst of such job-search-mess more times than I would like to admit. The author has suggested some systamatic approaches that can help even the unemployables to roll up their sleeves and find a dream job if they put their mind to it.

Some take aways for me are
Why are resumes dead? The author points out that with the plethora of information out there already about you, you need to toss out your 5 pager resume into garbage and prepare a brand new two pager resume freshly by pouring your soul into it. The prospective employer has 10 second scan on your resume. So put only that into your resume what you would say to the employer in that proverbial elevator speech.

How to turn the table with the prospective employer? The author points out that the job interview is not about you, but about the employer and how a specific job will be executed. The author gives valuable tips on how to veer the interview conversation to your plan to deliver the results they want and not necessarily to talk about your abilities.

Tips on synergistic networking, how millennials are redefining the work place, achiever mindset and how to continuously stay revved up in the race for work are other things that rhymed well with me.

It is an interesting journey all through out and a must read for those who will be competing with machines. It is man versus machine, baby!!
I like how he shares the story of the emerging trends of the world of work, how technology has and continues to change the way work is designed an delivered. He asks us to consider some interesting questions to decide how we might begin to shaper our careers in new ways that will allow us to work with and not against technology. Don't shift your career without a read. I was honored to have been gifted with an advance copy!
The author lays out the importance of an achiever's mindset which is fundamental to any individual looking for a job. The insight and experience of the author come through and his definitive roadmap gives clear steps and makes this a recommended read for both college students as well as the seasoned professional.
This book really hit home for me as I have spent 32 years in the automotive field as my day job. This book, The Race For Work, gives such a detailed look at the impact automation has on jobs and the working class.

The author doesn't just leave you hanging without offering you strategies for negotiating steps to finding great jobs.

I found this book starts out a bit heavy in facts and figures, but keep reading. It gets better and better the deeper you go into the book!!
